The Teton Climbers’ Coalition (TCC) announced today that it is temporarily pausing the Town Pump bouldering series, Community Climb Nights, and the Climbing Area Modernization (CAM) Project while the organization conducts a comprehensive review of insurance coverage related to organized climbing activities and fixed-anchor stewardship work.
The decision follows recent discussions with insurers, industry partners, and other climbing organizations regarding evolving insurance requirements affecting climbing-related programming nationwide.
“This pause is not the result of any accident, claim, or safety concern,” said Christian Beckwith, Executive Director of the TCC. “Rather, it reflects our commitment to responsible risk management and ensuring that our programs, volunteers, staff, board members, and participants are appropriately protected.”
The review is part of a broader effort by the TCC to evaluate the adequacy of existing insurance coverage and explore additional options that may better address organized climbing activities, community events, and stewardship initiatives.
Programs affected by the pause include:
- Town Pump, the TCC’s weekly summer bouldering series;
- Community Climb Nights;
- CAM Project activities involving organized fixed-anchor stewardship and hardware maintenance.
The TCC will continue to pursue clarification from current insurers while exploring alternative insurance products and policy structures available to climbing organizations.
Other TCC programs and initiatives may continue during this review period, including educational programming conducted through insured guide-service partners, advocacy efforts, stewardship planning, and other organizational activities that are not directly affected by the current insurance questions.
The TCC Board of Directors will continue evaluating available options and will provide updates to the climbing community as additional information becomes available.
“We recognize how important these programs are to our community,” Beckwith said. “Our goal is to identify a path forward that allows us to continue serving climbers while ensuring the organization is operating responsibly and sustainably.”
