What is the CAM Project?

The CAM Project, short for Climbing Area Modernization, is an initiative by the Teton Climbers’ Coalition to upgrade and maintain the safety of Jackson Hole’s climbing areas. Launched in 2022, this project focuses on inspecting, repairing, and replacing aging or damaged climbing hardware—such as bolts, anchors, and other critical equipment. By keeping these elements secure, the CAM Project ensures that climbers of all experience levels can enjoy safe and reliable routes.

Our team, supported by dedicated volunteers and partners like the American Safe Climbing Association (ASCA), has made significant progress across major climbing spots, including Blacktail Butte, Rodeo Wall, and Hoback Shield. Each year, we assess popular climbing sites, replace outdated hardware with modern, durable equipment, and host volunteer days to involve the climbing community in these improvements.

Beyond its role in safety, the CAM Project also aims to preserve the heritage of Jackson Hole’s climbing routes. As we update each area, we’re helping to ensure that these beloved climbing spaces remain accessible, well-maintained, and ready for future generations of climbers.
