What is the Women’s Grand Scholarship?
The Women’s Grand Scholarship is a program that gives women in the Jackson Hole area a unique chance to climb the iconic Grand Teton. This scholarship was created to honor Eleanor Davis, who made history in 1923 as the first known woman to reach the Grand’s summit. The program aims to support local women who want to experience this climb, build new skills, and join a strong community of climbers.
Each year, one local woman receives the scholarship, covering all costs of an all-women, guided climb. The journey begins with a climbing school, where participants learn essential techniques and safety practices. Then, with the help of skilled guides, the climber takes on a two-day trip to the Grand Teton’s summit. Along the way, she gains not only technical skills but also confidence and a deep sense of accomplishment.
More than just a climb, the Women’s Grand Scholarship is about bringing more women into the sport, celebrating their achievements, and building a supportive community of women in the outdoors. By offering this experience, the scholarship helps make climbing more inclusive and honors the adventurous spirit that drives all climbers.
