The Teton Climbers’ Coalition (TCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of longtime climber Matt Turner to its Board of Directors. The most recent addition to the board strengthens the organization’s leadership with a member who has a lifelong connection to Jackson Hole and a deep commitment to the region’s outdoor and climbing community.

Matt Turner.

Turner was born and raised at the Triangle X Ranch, a historic guest ranch in the heart of Jackson Hole, where he represents the fourth generation of his family to steward the operation. As a young man, he spent summers guiding four- to fourteen-day horseback pack trips into the Teton Wilderness, introducing guests from around the world to the landscapes that define northwest Wyoming. He remains actively involved in the ranch today, assisting with management and hosting guests during the summer season.

A graduate of Jackson Hole High School, Turner went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1988, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas in 1993. After beginning his legal career with a large firm in Kansas City, Turner returned to Jackson in 2000 with his wife, Jamie, to raise their family. He now maintains a broad-based legal practice in the valley, with experience spanning civil litigation, insurance defense, real estate, employment law, outdoor recreation, commercial transactions, construction, and governmental permitting.

“Matt brings a rare combination of local knowledge, professional expertise, and a lived understanding of what makes this landscape—and community—worth protecting,” said Christian Beckwith, Executive Director of the Teton Climbers’ Coalition. “His background in outdoor recreation, combined with decades of legal experience, will be invaluable as we continue to expand our work in stewardship, advocacy, and education.”

Turner and his wife are raising three children in Jackson, and much of their time is spent outdoors—skiing, climbing, paddling, and exploring the same terrain that has shaped his life.

“Jackson is and always will be home,” Turner said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to an organization that is working to protect access, improve safety, and strengthen the climbing community here.”

Turner’s appointment reflects TCC’s continued effort to build a board that represents the breadth of the Jackson Hole climbing and outdoor community, while bringing the experience needed to advance critical initiatives such as the Safe Climbing Initiative, the Climbing Area Modernization Project, and ongoing stewardship partnerships across the region.
