Good news! Town and County elected officials voted today to move forward on the rec center expansion, including the climbing gym.
Thanks to the outpouring of support from the community, work is now proceeding on a gym that’s 9,700 square feet (instead of the initial proposal of 5,750 square feet) and that features a world-class design (not a “birthday party gym.”)
To everyone who wrote letters, filled out surveys, showed up at the open house and advocated for a world-class climbing gym, thank you! This wouldn’t have been possible without your help.
Thanks go to our supportive elected officials, in particular Luther Propst, Mark Newcomb, Greg Epstein and Jim Rooks, and to Steve Ashworth and the crew at Parks and Rec for incorporating the community’s feedback into the gym’s design.
Today’s vote doesn’t guarantee the gym’s future; continued advocacy will be necessary to ensure the gym is as good as it can be. Still, it marks a significant step forward in the process of building a climbing gym that meets the needs of the entire community.
