Katia Ryan has called Jackson home for the past two years, immersing herself in the community and the wild landscapes that surround it. A passionate hiker, skier, runner, and dancer, Katia’s journey is about far more than just outdoor adventure—it’s about bridging divides and reshaping perceptions.

Raised between two cultures, Katia has experienced firsthand the contrasts that define Jackson: fast or slow, rich or poor, local or tourist. Early on, she struggled with the labels often imposed in this identity-driven town, but over time, she came to see her duality as a source of strength. Her ability to navigate both sides of Jackson’s divided community has allowed her to foster deep connections and champion inclusivity, whether by linking immigrant communities with health resources or simply brightening someone’s morning with a smile and a coffee.
A Community Health Outreach Worker with the Teton County Health Department, Katia has been involved in programs like the Latina Empowerment Circle, where she created welcoming spaces for women to focus on health and self-care. She also created a wellness program last summer to help build community for those in their 20s who live or work in Jackson. Her approach to advocacy is personal and effective: connect with people, learn their dreams, and invite them into the community with authenticity and care.
Through the Grand Scholarship, Katia hopes to showcase the power of duality and diversity, and to inspire others—especially those who don’t see themselves reflected in outdoor spaces—to show up, take up space, and thrive. As she prepares for medical school, Katia continues to weave together her passion for community, health, and adventure, determined to make a difference at every step of the journey.
Katia feels incredibly grateful to her parents Sean and Yvonne Ryan for encouraging her to follow her adventures. For her, climbing the Grand Teton would be both a personal milestone and a symbol of something larger: the belief that strength lies in showing up fully as yourself, no matter where you fall between the labels.
