On August 25, the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) and Teton Climbers’ Coalition hosted a volunteer day at the Happy Hour Wall, a moderate sport climbing area nestled in a beautiful alpine setting on the northern end of Tensleep Bowl.

Under the leadership of TCC Stewardship Director Chris Owen, half a dozen volunteers worked to improve the base area under the main set of climbs. They also began work on improving the trail that runs from the top of the tram to the climbing area from the ski area’s new North Ridge trail.

The Happy Hour Wall is ideal for newer climbers, with well-bolted routes that allow people to push their abilities. The successful stewardship project not only helped improve the crag as a climbing amenity for the community; it established a relationship between JHMR and the TCC that both organizations will be able to build on in years to come.

“Thanks to the JHMR Lift Operations department for getting us up the hill,” said Owen, “and to Ranyon and his trail crew for the great new North Ridge trail, which will make access to the Happy Hour Wall much easier.”
