The opening of the new Rec Center climbing gym has created a notable increase in interest in climbing within our community. While this enthusiasm is to be celebrated, it’s important to acknowledge the inherent risks associated with the sport, particularly for those transitioning from indoor to outdoor climbing.

That’s where The Teton Climbers’ Coalition’s Safe Climbing Initiative (SCI) comes in.

Presented by Teton Mountaineering, in partnership with Exum and Jackson Hole Mountain Guides and Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation, the Teton Climbers’ Coalition’s Safe Climbing Initiative (SCI) is a structured, progressive series of instructional classes designed to meet the growing demand for climbing safety and skills education in Teton County.

The TCC’s objective is to minimize costs for participants. Thanks to the support of Teton Mountaineering, as well as Four Pines Physical Therapy, Spackman and Associates and other local businesses, financial assistance is available on an as-needed basis. Registration for the SCI may be made here.

Led by experienced Exum and Jackson Hole Mountain Guides, the SCI is set to bridge the gap between indoor climbing and outdoor adventure with a three-course series with an emphasis on Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced skill sets.

Participants will learn critical technical skills and deepen their understanding of risk management in a responsible, accessible setting. Classes are open to climbers of all levels, offering a unique opportunity for individuals to learn practical outdoor climbing skills in a structured, safe, and supportive environment.
