As part of our ongoing Climbing Area Modernization (CAM) Project, the TCC is calling on volunteers to help complete the final phase of anchor replacements at Rodeo Wall on Sunday, September 22.

Reliable anchors are crucial for climbers’ safety and the sustainability of climbing routes. Over time, wear and tear can compromise these vital components.

Recognizing this, TCC developed the CAM Project to replace old and suspect climbing hardware across Jackson Hole’s climbing areas. The Rodeo Wall event is the latest in a series of successful efforts to upgrade our local crags.

Earlier this year, on June 9, TCC proudly hosted a day of camaraderie and community action at the Hoback Shield, where a dedicated team replaced 25 outdated anchors with state-of-the-art Mussy Hook anchors. This effort, led by TCC board member Garrick Hart and Stewardship Team leader Tom Hargis, covered nearly all the anchors at the crag, including the second-pitch anchors of two-pitch routes.

At Rodeo Wall, the CAM Project volunteers have already made substantial progress by installing Mussy Hook anchors on approximately half of the routes. The installation of Mussy Hook anchors—known for their ease of use, strength, and durability—ensures that these climbing routes remain safe and enjoyable for future generations.

The September 22 Rodeo Wall effort is being coordinated by TCC board member Hadden Goodman.

“We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers for their dedication and hard work,” said Goodman. “Their efforts ensure that our climbing areas remain safe and enjoyable for everyone.”

Event Details:

  • Date: Sunday, September 22, 2024
  • Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Location: Rodeo Wall, Jackson Hole

Volunteers will assist with tasks such as removing old hardware, installing new Mussy Hooks, and ensuring that all anchors meet the highest safety standards. No prior experience in anchor replacement is necessary—our experienced team will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction.

Looking ahead, the CAM Project will continue its mission in 2024, with plans to finalize the Upper Blacktail Butte hardware on the Wild at Heart wall in autumn 2024. The ongoing success of the CAM Project underscores our shared commitment to the safety of the climbing community and the preservation of Jackson Hole’s cherished climbing areas.
