The Teton Climbers’ Coalition (TCC), with generous support from Four Pines Physical Therapy and Women in the Tetons, is thrilled to announce the 2024 Women’s Grand Scholarship. This scholarship will provide one woman the unique opportunity to participate in an all-female guided trip with Exum Mountain Guides up the Grand Teton from August 22-25, 2024.
Interested applicants should submit their applications via this online application form by July 5th, 2024.
Last summer, as part of the TCC’s centennial celebration of the first known female ascent of the Grand Teton, Wanna Johansson stood on top of the Grand for the first time. Her ascent was made possible by the inaugural Grand Scholarship, which is designed to promote women and greater inclusivity in climbing by helping local women reach the summit of the highest peak in the Teton Range.
Motivated to apply for the scholarship to highlight important questions about diversity in climbing, Wanna, who was born in the Philippines and lives in Jackson, shared that the scholarship empowered her to challenge assumptions about the identity of climbers and achieve her personal goals. The centennial celebration and the all-female guided trip Wanna participated in was marked by joy, personal challenges, triumphs, and a strong sense of community support for women and greater inclusivity in climbing.
On the basis of the success of last year’s scholarship, the TCC is excited to offer the Women’s Grand Scholarship again this year, with continued support from Women in the Tetons and from Four Pines Physical Therapy.
The 2024 scholarship will enable another woman to join the all-female guided ascent of the Grand Teton. The experience includes climbing school and a two-day climb to the summit, complete with a night of camping at Exum’s high camp on the Lower Saddle.
