The Teton Climbers’ Coalition, a dedicated 501c3 non-profit organization committed to stewardship, advocacy, and engagement within the Teton climbing community, proudly announces the launch of its inaugural Local Hero Award. The accolade aims to honor and celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to the Teton climbing community throughout the year 2023.
At the 2022 AlpinFilm Festival, the TCC presented a surprise “Stewardship Award” to local crag developer Tom Hargis for his outstanding contributions in developing the Wilson Canyon climbing area. This precursor award highlighted the importance of stewardship and the impact of individuals like Hargis in shaping the Teton climbing landscape.
Building upon its mission to acknowledge impactful contributions within the community, the Teton Climbers’ Coalition expanded the scope of its recognition in 2023 to encompass the three pillars of its mission: Stewardship, Advocacy, and Engagement. This evolution reflects the organization’s commitment to celebrating a diverse range of contributions that shape and strengthen the Teton climbing community.
“In 2023, we made a deliberate decision to broaden the Local Hero Award, aligning it with our core values of stewardship, advocacy, and engagement,” said the TCC’s Executive Director, Christian Beckwith. “This award represents our dedication to honoring individuals whose efforts have made a profound impact in preserving, advocating for, and enriching the Teton climbing community.”
The Local Hero Award will recognize an individual who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and achievement in one or more of the following areas:
- Stewardship: Exemplary dedication to preserving and safeguarding the Teton climbing environment.
- Engagement: Outstanding commitment to gathering, educating and/or engaging the community.
- Advocacy: Exceptional efforts in advocating for the needs and interests of Teton climbers.
Nominations for the Local Hero Award are open to individuals actively involved in the Teton climbing community, with contributions made during the calendar year 2023. Submissions can be made via this google form and must include the nominee’s name, contact information, a detailed description of why you believe they merit the award (up to 500 words), and any supporting materials by January 10, 2024.
The recipient of the Local Hero Award will be revealed during the AlpinFilm event at the Center for the Arts on January 20, 2024. This momentous occasion will feature an award ceremony spotlighting the remarkable achievements and indelible impact of the chosen individual.
The Teton Climbers’ Coalition invites all members of the Teton climbing community to participate in celebrating and honoring these Local Heroes who have made extraordinary contributions across the spectrum of stewardship, advocacy, and engagement.
