The Teton Climbers’ Coalition will debut its inaugural AlpinFilm January 13-14, 2023, at the 300-seat Jackson Hole Playhouse in downtown Jackson, Wyoming.

The two-day festival will be modeled on The Alpinist Film Festival, which ran from 2004-2008 and attracted more than 2,000 audience members at its peak.

Like The Alpinist Film Festival, AlpinFilm will feature mountain films from around the world with an emphasis on cinematographic storytelling.

“More than a showcase of adventurous acts, AlpinFilm explores the reasons we embark on adventures in the first place,” said TCC board chair Christian Beckwith. Beckwith, who directed The Alpinist Film Festival, will direct AlpinFilm as well.

The festival’s first event will coincide with the centenary of the first female ascent of the Grand Teton, an accomplishment the TCC will be celebrating throughout the year. Accordingly, AlpinFilm’s 2023 program will feature films that explore the past, present and future of women in the mountains.

Beckwith notes that regardless of any given year’s theme, AlpinFilm will be defined by its home in Jackson Hole.

“The Tetons are the epicenter of American mountaineering,” Beckwith said. “From backyard adventures to international expeditions, they’ve been inspiring climbers and ski mountaineers to push physical, mental and spiritual boundaries for more than a century.

“That legacy will inform the selection of our films and the composition of our audience, which will include the local mountain community and winter visitors alike.”

All proceeds from AlpinFilm will underwrite the work of The Teton Climbers’ Coalition, a 501c3 non-profit organization that stewards, advocates and engages on behalf of the Teton climbing community.
