This year’s Town Pump bouldering competition ends August 17. To keep the community bouldering into the fall, The Teton Climbers’ Coalition will host The Boulderdash, a community bouldering series, on Tuesday evenings from August 24-September 28 at the Teton Boulder Park.
The family-friendly event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public. No registration is required to participate.
The intent of The Boulderdash is to foster community within the Teton climbing community. Unlike a competition, the event will require bouldering skills plus a dash of strategy on the part of participants.
The event’s first hour and a half will be the “warm-up,” in which participants climb and strategize for the event’s final push. At 7:00 p.m., the “Boulderdash”—a thirty-minute bouldering “sprint” in which participants accumulate as many points as possible—will begin.
Only the points accumulated during the final half hour will be included in participants’ scores. To make matters more interesting, participants can only include boulder problems they’ve successfully climbed during the “warm-up” in their final scores.
The Boulderdash will thus require climbers to reserve enough “go-juice” during the first hour and a half to accumulate as many points as possible during the final half hour.
The Boulderdash is open to everyone. Those interested in participating may simply show up.
